Sally O'Connor

Sally O’Connor was born in Adelaide and grew up on a farm at Meningie. Formal studies included a Science degree with Honours in Marine Botany. Pursuits for enjoyment have been art, music, food and flying. She has worked as a teacher and in aviation maintenance in the Limestone Coast.

Since retiring, Sally has actively pursued art by attending workshops in drawing, oil painting, watercolours and printmaking, including Japanese woodblock. Inspiration from nature and Botany have fuelled her imagination. Frequent visits to her daughter in Hong Kong have confirmed an Asian influence to her work.

Her work is contemporary, mostly semi-abstract; incorporating simple line drawing and development of themes and design to express in painting and printmaking.

She has been an active member of Artsparks Art Therapy, Thumb Print Workshop Inc., Life Drawing Mount Gambier for 5 years and is part of Gallery 54 Collective Inc., Member of Gallery 247 and has Accredited Membership with Guildhouse. She has exhibited locally and in Adelaide. Her work is found in private collections in Hong Kong, New Zealand, California, Victoria and South Australia.

Participation in Country Arts Nebula 2021 has been the highlight of her career, planting new seeds ripe for germination and confirming more confidence in her own voice. Following Nebula, the privilege to be included in the Portrait Project has opened further opportunities, working alongside a dynamic group of women artists of varied ages and stages, learning and sharing together.
